About ReikiThe Japanes characters making up the word 'Reiki' can be translated as meaning 'Universal Life Energy' and it is this translation that is most accepted in the West. It can also be 'soul energy' or 'aura'. Whatever you wish to call it, it is all around us, everything in the world is made up of energy. Reiki is the simple art of chanelling that energy for the highest good of the recipient, to heal, to calm and to achieve peace and well being. Reiki is gentle, non-invasive and helps the body to heal, to gain calm and serenity and relieve pain and stress. We all have an energy field and at times that energy field becomes blocked and shuts down. Stress, anger, illness and unhapiness can cause the energy field to 'clog' and stop flowing in the way that it should. Very simply Reiki opens up that energy field, allows us to experience calmness and serentity and become focused. The body is then in the optimum state to begin healing itself. Even traditional medicine cannot always help us because our energy field is dormant and just not functioning. Reiki complements traditional medicine. The 'universal energy' that is Reiki allows the body to relax, allows the energy field to flow again and, with the power of positive thought patterns, begins the healing process.
BRIEF HISTORY AND PRECEPTS OF REIKIMikao Usui is credited with the re-emergence of Reiki in Japan, probably in the very early 1900s. Usui trained in Martial Arts from a very young age and was greatly interested in many forms of the Arts. Usui's original system of Reiki was influenced by forms of Buddhism and Shintoism and Usui himself had a life long interest in all forms of energy cultivation. When Reiki came to the West it is generally admitted that it came via Hawayo Takata, a lady who came originally to Usui's clinic suffering from a variety of quite serious medical conditions. After her initial sceptisism, Mrs Takata wanted to teach Reiki and obtained permission from Usui to take the teachings back to the USA. However, at that time, just after the Second World War, it was difficult to have a Japanese energy treatment accepted in the USA, with the all too prominent memories of Pearl Harbour at the forefront of everybody's minds! There were various 'stories' invented, therefore, to enable the Usui system to be accepted within the USA and this has caused some confusion as the the origins of Reiki. However, we are now slowly uncovering the original Usui methods and it is those that we at Hygeia Energy Healing are most interested in and teach on our workshops. The Reiki precepts are as true and as relevant today as they were when Mikao Usui first taught them. If we live by them every day, then we can all notice and appreciate the difference in our lives. The Reiki Precepts Just for today do not anger Just for today do not worry Just for today be humble Just for today be honest in your work Just for today be compassionate to yourself and others We realise that those of you who need the energising and soothing energy of Reiki treatments will need appointments outside of the usual 9 - 5 margins!
